Hi all, I have been visiting this site for about a mounth, and It has been a great tool for myself. I have gone ahead and purchased a 8E0035192F unit on Ebay. I have visited all the topics on this forum but am at a loss as to getting help on installing the unit on a 2004 cabriolet, namely how to remove the instrament cluster, or anyone that has done the retro on a cab. I understand that thier is alot of info on the b6 but the instrament cluster is different.
Thanx

You could avoid the need to remove the instrument cluster by fixing your GPS antenna on the top surface of your glovebox - that's where I've got mine.

On a B6/B7 there's no need to get to any of the wiring behind the instrument cluster.

agreed. The RNS-E upgrade in the B6/B7 is the least "invasive" of all the installs. IMHO.

If you mount your GPS on the dash, you might want to consider installing it in the center most point where the dash meets the glass. Running the wire will be very simple...and a center "location" might bring some symmetry to the dash look/appearance. Just my thoughts.

By "top surface of the glovebox" I DON'T mean on top of the dash.

If you take the glovebox out on a B6/B7 there is a flat surface on the top of the actual glovebox that is almost level with the bottom of the windscreen when fitted - and the GPS antenna can be fitted there with double sided tape.

New install of RNS-E

Went ahead and installed GPS reciever on top of glove box as discribed obove . Pretty straight forward after removing the 9 screws and plastic panel on passenger side. Recieving 6 SATS. Thank you for your timely support and pointers. I have 2 more silly ?s my nav not powering up when I turn ignition must power up manually and turns off after about half hour, iand no display on the instrament cluster is this something to do with the VAG-COM. I have a 2004 Cabriolet w/Bose, multifunction wheel and XM sat.

Both those faults are probably caused caused by the CAN bus not being connected.

As a final check - when you turn on the car lights (sidelights, headlights, whatever) do the legends on the buttons on the RNS-E turn red (illuminate)? If not that proves the CAN bus isn't connected to your RNS-E.

The faults could also be caused by incorrect coding. The A4 and A4 cabrio CAN seems to be different and if an A4 coded 8E0 unit is used in a A4 Cabrio all kind of weird things happen. Make sure the unit is coded for an A4 Cabrio before you double check the CAn wires.

When I purchased the nav unit I specified that it was going to be installed in a 2004 cabrio with bose and xm, it is an 8e0f unit in order to make sure that it is coded correctley could I visit dealer to VAG-com this unit. In other words would vag com make all the difference.

Yes it would, if your lights are coming on, then it sounds like its the coding. Your unit should be an 8H0, not 8E0, so it sounds like its set for A4 and not cabrio as default.

Recoding for cabrio should resolve your issues.

Returned from Audi delership and they were able to code rsn-e to turn on with ignition and turn off normally, but the could not code the unit to come on the instrament cluser. I came across a very weird accurance selct nav then info and select compass unit does display on the cluster but goes away after I turn car off or change between drive or reverse. I could go thru the same excercise and I will come back on but cannot seem to make it stay as a default. Anyone experience this in the past and what to do to rectify would be of great help also help with vag tool in the Boston area would be awesome.
Thanks

I had to code instrument part of the vagcom to 5 and make sure compass was turned off. Also once you do that and back out of Vagcom, shut your car completely off and wait a few sec's then turn it back on..

I know you said your from the boston area, if you do not have any luck finding someone with a vagcom, I am in Connecitcut if you wanna take a ride..
