How Many Satelites?

1631 Views 10 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  PetrolDave
I just installed my NAV and was wondering how many satellites should I be receiving? I get between 4-6 where I placed the antenna, is that enough, or should I be getting more?

I just want to make sure the antenna is in a good place in the dash to get optimum performance. Also, I noticed that with the Bose connector, there is another jack on the back of the unit, and also a open connector that is available - can I install the audi CD changer or av/tuner? I have XM and it is working properly - just trying to understand what options are still available to me.

Thanks,
John

I use a exertnal Triplexantenna. I got up to 8 Sat!

I put mine behind the instrument cluster. It receives 7 satellites all the time.
4-7 from the top surface of the glovebox (real easy to install on a B6/B7).
Also: 7-8 from the SharkFin, but it's the best position. From your dash I think it will be less but enough.
Dumb Q of the day....how do I check teh # of Sats?

I've have not had any issues, yet, but how can I check the number of SATs?

Placed mine above the glove box.
5-8 behind cluster..

Either from Nav-Info screen or in Engineering Mode (turn RNS-E off and on, press top left button by wheel for >5 seconds, press top right button until Engineering Mode screen appears. If it doesn't appear within 15 seconds turn off and back on and use longer times - mine seems to need >10 seconds).
