How can I have navplus come on when the car starts?

Is there any way via vag-com or some other method to have the nav unit start when I turn the key to start up the car? Since I always turn on the system after starting the car anyway, thought it would be convenient if it could just turn on itself.

Thanks!

The unit will turn on by itself if connected to the CANbus in the car.

If you're talking about the CD based Navplus instead (RNS-D), you have to connect the swtiched power lead so it knows when the switch is on.
Sounds complicated. Are there instructions on how to do this? I read the CANbus document on your site but it was greek to me.

Thats not really what you need. You should read Section 1 of my RNS install guide. It will describe how to connect to CANbus at the instrument cluster and the headunit.
If I understand it correctly, I'll need to move pin 8 to 7 and 9 to 12 on Connector I and 12 to 5 and 13 to 6 on T32c?

I have a factory installed RNS-E in an a3(8P). Will this modification change the way the unit operates with the controls on the steering wheel?

Thanks!
Maybe I'm missing something here but a factory installed RNS-E should turn off/on with ignition (North America) or with inserting/removing the ignition key (Europe).

Are you saying that this is not the case in your car?
Boy do I feel dumb. I didn't realize till now I've been unconsciously turning off the unit before pulling out the key which is why it was always off when starting the car again.

I think the problem is that there's no way to stop the radio/cd/sd from playing while the navigation (map) is on (aside from turning down the volume) so I think I'm simply turning off the music when pressing the power button.

Hopefully there will be a software update that will add the ability to shut off whatevers playing without turning off the map.

Thanks for the help anyway.
Sounds like you are in Europe. With the Euro software 0330 or higher you get a mute function which should do what you are looking for. What software are you running on your RNS-E?
I'm in the US with the latest 0110 software. Apparently this version is still missing the pause feature. Any way to load the euro 0330 software to this unit and still use the 2006 US maps?

No.
