I've found a 3 spoke MFSW which is on it's way, but I'm having some trouble finding an airbag, control module, and S/C ring...other then from the dealer of course.
1stVWparts.com no longer sells Audi parts and that was the only place I was familiar with online that had better pricing.

Can anyone point me in the right direction where I could find these items at a lower price then the dealer? Thanks

I tried car-part.com and not much luck.

The dealer gave me the following prices...

Control module - P/N 8E0 953 549 R $248
S/C Ring - P/N 4E0 953 541 B $382
Airbag Wiring Harness - (4F0 971 589 A) $58

Now I'm still a bit confused on the S/C Ring part. Reading thru what PROXUS wrote, I can't really tell if he did end up getting a new S/C Ring or if he modified the harness or both? If it's possible without a new S/C Ring, it would save quite a bit of money.

What is the deal with the lack of support/help on this? No one knows the answers to these questions? :?

General question about this. I have a 3-spoke sport wheel in my new A4 (manual transmission). Some boundary came up when I was considering if I should buy the MSFW, so I didn't. Now if I manage to find a similar wheel but with buttons, should I buy something else too? As the steering wheel is exactly the same, I can use the existing airbag? Should change the control module also, or is it just "happy recoding with VAG-COM?" What is S/C ring, do I need that too?

Cheers

I'm not sure exactly what the S/C Ring does, but generally I think it's needed only in cars where the airbag plugs don't match...as in putting a B7 wheel into a B6 car. Sounds like you have a B7 A4, so you shouldn't need one.

You will need a new module for the buttons on a multi function steering wheel to communite with the rest of the car.

Ok, I remember changing the module when I retrofitted the FIS into my friends car. The letter in the end was different. Any idea what part number to look for? I remember that everything in the dash went wild, but I managed to recalibrate everything back then somehow. Same result perhaps waiting for this time also..?

I believe it's the "self-cancelling ring"--part of it is responsible for cancelling a turn signal at the completion of a turn. I think it also has the connections for the airbag harness and any controls on the steering wheel.

Quoting self, ETKA shows that only 8E0 953 549 R is available. With B6 there where many, according to the feature You had. So perhaps it does not need to be changed..?

When I changed out my B6 S4 MFSW to a B7 S4 MFSW I replaced everything you mentioned. I just didn't want to come up with any suprises. I replaced the following.....

Steering wheel
Airbag
Airbag harness
S/C ring
Control module
yellow wiring harness connector end

I can get you some part number if you need.

No no. I mean the basic FIS just gave the mileage, nothing else. But when you change the lever and do some coding (and install a washer fluid sensor), that kind of retrofit. And now I recall, that the feature did not need any changes in the steering wheel module, but it was the cruise retrofit.

I was told that it came out of a 2003 A4, along with the 2DIN climate control I bought at the same time.

It does not have an Audi part number, but has the following codes stamped into it.

I 036 901 072
LB32EM-BC02

and a white sticker with T1C059 on it.

I also have an unused A4 Instrument Cluster tht I want to take apart to examine how it fits.

I have heard that chaging th DIS is a bit of a challenge though ! ?
