Can anybody tell me how the cable is called that is used for the GPS/GSM FAKRA cables? Is this some kind of RG-xx coax cable?

I'm looking to extening my GPS antenna to a mobile phone cradle. The cradle has an SMB connector with about 3 inch cable and I was planning to get a universal/GSM FAKRA cable, cut one end and solder/crimp/twist it together. Are there any kind of coplers that could be used to get both cables together without crimping? Or can I use a standard crimping tool to crimp the copler onto both cables?

Thanks,
Dirk

You'll need one of the special crimpng tools for co-ax cables, with the adapter for the diameter of cable that you're using.

But they're not cheap!

Thanks guys, that get's me started.

Ted, the cradle I got for my Qtek 9100 has an antenna connector. I'm planning to extend that connector to the GPS antenna that is left over from my OnStar install. The antenna connector is a SMB type plug with some (RG-174?) cable going to a circuit board. So all I need now is some wire to close the gap and don't loose to much signal.
