GPS Annt placement... sharkfin?

2158 Views 13 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  TeddyBGame
Hello. I have a 2004.5 A4 with the original sharkfin on the roof (the one Audi used on 2004 models.. not the new one on 2005/2006.) Ia m wondering if anyone has placed the GPS annt in the sharkfin? Is it possible? And is it really hard to get too? (Guessing you have to remove the headliner inside the car?) Thanks. -gregtay

If you have the Sharkfin, the antenna should already be in there.

You can buy an extension cable from Kufatec or Europarts (I think) to run it to the front.

That's what I did.
Great! (I was kind of wondering if it was in there.) Does anyone have a write up of where to find to plug in the extension cable? Guessing you have to remove the roofliner?

Thanks, that was helpful.... learned that since i have On-Star my GPS annt in the sharkfin is already being used. Lame. (Although my OnStar is not activated if figured it would be best to keep it in working order. Maybe i will just stick with the dashboard mounting. Guessing splitting the NAV wire might introduce other issues.
There should be a GPS antenna splitter, most likely behind the trim on the left side in the trunk.
FYI Onstar updated hardware/software...

Depending on the year of your car you may have an analog Onstar set up. What does this mean? I let the o/s expire on my Denali. I called to get a quote for reactivation. The pushy sales rep made the mistake of mentioning that as of 2/06 (for GM) a new Digital hardware/software setup is avail for install to our vehicle. Here's the kicker, $199 for a basic renewal of analog service (prepaid over the phone) or $499 (Dealer) for installation of the new digital hardware/software INCLUDING 3 years of basic service. You can now link your Verizon account to your o/s for about $9.95 mo. for a family plan for phone use. Onstar gave me another 320 free minutes for the phone because no one would activate my acct after the install. Onstar thought I was lying about having a new digital unit installed. I hope some of this applies to the folks w/ o/s on the Audi's.

Yes, shore diving is neat....but I'm planning on going down to a few 100ft depths and view some wrecked WWII planes. I will need to use a compass to navigate some of these waters.....so I guess that is "navigation-related". :)
