My RNS-E has now arrived for fitting in my 2004 C5 A6. I am presently discussing the installation with experienced fitters but who have not done this on an A6 before. They tell me that the plug and play wire should enable the RNS-E to pick up the required speed pulse signal. Their logic is that the Syphony 2 unit receives the Gala signal via the connection which the plug and play wire connects to. This appears to make sense but it is very clear from the very valuable assistance on this forum from teddybgame and AudiA4B6US that it is necessary to make an additional connection. I would therefore appreciate any further input (particulary from teddybgame and AudiA4B6US please!) before I go ahead with the installation.
Many thanks

Check you have a v-signal wire from connector B pin 3 of the RNS-E to the old symphony Connector 3 – Gala – Pin1

Gala speed wire again?

But doesn't the gala speed signal go to the Symphony 2 unit via the connection which will attach to the plug and play connection? The Symphony 2 unit must pick it up this way as there is no other connection.

I can't remember having anybody seen writing about using the GALA signal from his A6 Symphony II connector. If your RNS-E adapter has the speed wire going to Connector 3 pin 1 as Craig said, I would give it a try. Worst case is that it doesn't work and that you need to get behind the instrument cluster.

Your Sym II won't have a GALA wire behind it...period. I would be shocked to hear that a 2004 C5 A6 would have this; they changed it for the 2002 model year. Therefore you need to get it from behind the cluster. See my sig, this has been covered a lot with other installs. Good luck!

Many thanks for your reply.

My Symphony 2 unit has Gala ie the volume increases with the speed of the vehicle. It must pick up the signal via the Cambus so I assume the same signal can be fed to the RNS-E via the plug and play lead.

You were absolutely correct - it is necessary to fit the speed wire from behind the instrument panel. The installation went very smoothly thanks to your detailed pics and instructions. Thanks once again. The only thing that does not work is the nav information in the DIS. The RNS-E is communicating with the DIS as the radio station etc appears. I have not VAGCOM'ed the car yet though. Can you confirm if this will be sorted out by the VAGCOM settings?
