I don't know of any way to change what the DIS shows by coding or adaptation. Not 100% sure but I think it might be related to either the type of Navi system or the SW version in the DIS (i.e. vehicle build date).

My first S4 (May 2003) had a factory RNS-D and showed CD number & track on the top line plus something else that I can't remember on the second line of the DIS, my current S4 (October 2004) has the RNS-E and shows track info (from the MP3 card) on the top line and temperature on the second line of the DIS - both when navigation is active (the display is different when navigation is not active). Both were/are the colour DIS.

I guess the only way to be sure is to attach a CAN bus analyser (does such a beast exist?) and see what the RNS is sending to the DIS.
