it's under the "special destinations" list in the main NAV menu. you can find my phone number, in immediate vicinity, along the route, etc.
that is where i thought it should be but i swear it wasnt there..

i am pretty sure mine says..

*by phone number
*in immediate vicinity
*in vicinity of destination
*nationwide

i am going out the car to double check it..

thanks .. troy

I think you have to have a route mapped in for it to be an option. Don't know that for sure though.
i just tried it.. i had route guidance active, then i went into "ROUTE" and selected "ROUTE WITH STOPOVER", then i went to "SPECIAL DESTINATION" and i only had

*Telephone number
*in immediate vicinity
*in vicinity of destination
*nationwide (this was grayed out)

do you have an EU unit updated with US software, or do you have a real US unit??..

thanks for your help..

I have an EU unit flashed to US. I know I've seen that option before, but I have never acutally used it so I'm not that familiar with it. I just remembered that is where all the options are. I get to the "special destination" screen through the root navigation menu (that shows region, city, address).
i wonder if it is a left over bit of EU software??.. (like the TEL functions)..

maybe some others could check there and let us know..

also let us know if you have a real US unit, a EU->US unit, or an EU unit in Europe..

thanks..
Yes, I've the option! My menu:

*Telephone number
*in immediate vicinity
*in vicinity of destination
*along the route (grayed out when there's no actually route)
*nationwide

EU D-unit
SW 0360
HW 070

thanks for checking Haaggie...

can anyone with a real US unit check theirs??..
Hi, I also checked a real US F-unit with 0110 firmware: the option is NOT there. Then I checked a F-unit with SW 0040: 'Along the route' is available!

Conclusion:

EU units with SW 0360 (newest DVD 2005_2) have the option "POI Along the route' available

US units with SW 0040 (DVD 2004) have the option "POI Along the route' available

US or midofied EU units with the newest US firmware (SW 0110) DON'T have this option anymore!

A bug...?

Perhaps they thoght that nobody used that option, and that the options for "in immediate vicinity", and "in the vicinity of the destination" were sufficient? Perhaps in an attempt to simplify things, they removed this option altogether.
AAHHHH!!!!..

the US software sucks!!.. no pause/mute button, no "along current route", not to mention i didnt fix most of the old issues like 'MIX'.. what the hell.. errrr..

thanks alot Haaggie, for thorough research..

i wonder how far away it looks under "immediate vicinity"??.. "immediate vicinity" would probably tell you to turn around and go to a gas station 5miles behind you instead of telling you to go to the one 10mins ahead..

also, as long as we are talking about POI, is there anyway to see the POI on the map before you select it??..

thanks everyone..

You can choose what POIs to display by category - not 100% sure but I think it's under NAV SETUP.

yes i am familiar with that.. but i mean when you search for 'mcdonals' and 5 of them come up, it tells you how far away each on is and the direction -- i dont know of a way to see it on the map unless you select and start route guidance.. but if is not in a convenient location you have to go thru the whole process again.. it would be nice if you could see the location on the map of one and easily go back to the list of 5 if it isnt the one you want..
