You can set times when the RNS-E will turn on and monitor the radio for TP messages and digitally store them.
I'm in the UK and have my RNS-E setup to store the TP messages for the hour before I leave home in the morning and the hour before I leave work in the afternoon. It's really handy to be able to listen to the traffic reports from your local radio station - I've changed my route more than once to avoid congestion. (I had setup my previous RNS-D to do the same)
I wonder if the default setting of this timed function is 24 hours? That might explain the battery flattening problem that some are seeing in Europe?
I would speculate that since there's no TP in the US, this explains why this problem isn't being seen.
