I'm going to keep this first message updated with the responses received in this thread or found somewhere else. Might be useful for those who are interested in sourcing the Euro RNS-E for use in North America but don't know yet where the differences are.
It has been confirmed that the US software 0020 can be loaded on Euro units with software 0140 or older. Euro units with software 0330 or newer have not been tested yet. Installing the US software on a US unit fixes all issues mentioned below and does not require a patched DVD anymore. See here for details.
Please do not discuss issues in this thread, just list what you confirmed being different when comparing the Euro RNS-E with the US unit.
US DVD does not work
The US DVD must be patched to be detected as map DVD by the Euro unit. The properly patched 2004 US DVD has been confirmed to work with the Euro software 0050 to 0140. It is confirmed that the patched 2004 US DVD will not work with Euro unit running software 0330 or newer.
Missing street issue
Smallest streets in rural areas are not shown on the map but used for navigation (timing estimates seem to be incorrect/to long). Toll roads are also not shown on the map but used for navigation (timing estimates seem to be OK here).
Unable to enter North/South/East/West addresses
It is not possible to pick N/S/E/W addresses for streets. This doesn't exist in Europe and is therefore not available even when using the US DVD.
XM/Sirius SAT radio does not work
The Euro unit does not detect an installed OEM SAT receiver. To be confirmed with the 2nd generation SAT receivers (D and E unit).
FM/AM Frequency issue
The Euro unit allows to tune FM in 0.1MHz increments and AM (MW) in 9MHz increments. FM is fine in North America (0.2MHz is the standard in NA) but AM does not work very well because only a few North American station transmit on frequencies supported by the Euro unit. AM Stereo is also not supported by the Euro RNS-E
RDS categories do not match
Euro and North America use different categories for RDS programs. The US unit displays frequency and RDS station name, the EU unit displays RDS station name and genre.
