EU with US software - Radio Tuning Issues

1833 Views 14 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Scotto
Just installed a new EU unit that Power Tony upgraded to US software in my 2005 B7 S4. Everything is working great excpet the radio. For some reason the FM tuning jumps in .1 (e.g 94.0, 94.1, 94.2... )increments and AM by 1. On the initial FM screen that is supposed to show all the available stations in the area, I get a whole bunch of junk stations with crazy station information, including symbols and such. I assume this is because it is stopping on stations like 94.1 instaed of 94.1. I was under the impression taht the flash to US software cured this. I do get Sirius, so something has changed to US from EU.

Everything else seems to be US appropriate (cardinal direction street names, annoying disclaimer, etc.).

Any ideas? The FM screen is really ugly with all the junk on there. Thanks in advance.

Sympthoms points out to old firmware or some errors within updated values. Either way you will need to load firmware update with higher index value to correct the problem. It could be hard because you can go only higher with index number (I suspect your update is US firmware with index 330 or 370).
I have one "C" unit with messed up audio software, reads: FM goes in .1 and AM in 9 instead of 10. It's running the Euro 0330 audio software but even though FM is fine and finds all the stations in my area. Did you double check that the diversity antenna is connected properly (check with VAG-COM for error in that area). And a system reset (press RADIO+SETUP until it reboots) has helped in the past as well to fix strange issues.
scotto,
this is exactly what I got with my first RNS-E. Lots of symbols and signs in place of letters, numbes on the FM stations. I suspect that your firmware is running in a mixed US/Euro mode.

As a result, my unit will be "reflashed" to correct this. Good luck!

How and where do you get a Euro unit reflashed that is running US software?

Thanks,
Alex

That's a question I would be interested in the answer as well...
You can change index number to higher that you have already, this will "fool" EEPROM that your disk have newer software and will start upgrade.

Bad side of this method is that you will need to "fool" your unt every time you will make upgrades because adding index value is not reversable. At least for now.
Sorry for the delay. Thanks for the insight. I will talk to power tony about this and report back on the fix.

Thanks again.

Has anyone actually tried this? I am not too happy with the US disclaimer screen and would rather go back to Euro firmware with the US radio MOT file.

Can I go to Euro 360 firmware or is that firmware only for newer units?

depands...if your upgrade was based on 370 index count, that you can't load 360 software becase unit will not detect it as update (well ...you can if you will mess with software index files). If your upgrade was build based on 330 software then you got a chance.

I went from 0100 firmware to the US firmware.

yes, but the question is what kind of firmware update you loaded. I suspect that it was based on 0020 US software with index count 330. In that case you should be fine to go back to 0360 EU software.

You can try either way, it's not going to blow :D lol
It will update it or it will show you "incorrect disk"

I missunderstood what you were asking. I think it was 0020.

Now all I have to do is find someone with 0360 firmware. Hint. Hint.

I have two questions:

1) If I update the firmware to 0360 will I need a new patched US disc or will the one I had for 0100 work.

2) If I leave the MOT file off of the patch disk will I get US radio tuning or Euro? As far as I have read the MOT file is the one that sets the radio tuning. Someone a while ago patched their unit to US but forgot the MOT file and wound up with US firmware and Euro radio tuning. I would like to do just the opposite.
No real help but I managed to get my "C" unit (which was stuck in US mode for weeks) back to the Euro software. Unfortunately did I use Euro 0050 (to have some space to play with updates) but it denies currently any further update - either Euro or US and even the original Euro 0360 DVD doesn't work as update. In Engineering Mode I saw that the Audio Software is at A2210131 (Euro 0360) while the Navi Software is V2200026F (Euro 0050). My guess is now that I'll have to wait for the 2005_3 Euro software update and even then I may be stuck with the Euro software because its checksum routines will prevent it from accepting another hacked US update (like the "D" units). At least it still reads my Euro 2005 DVD.

Just as a reminder to be carefull when playing with software hacks. 8)
An update (albeit a late update).

Checked the antenna connections and all is well. Went to the dealer and checked for faults and I have a speaker fault (more on that later). So it seems that the conversion to US software did not work completely for the radio tuning portion of teh unit.

So it seems I need to "re-flash" the unit, which I have no idea how to do, being exceptionally non-technical. Assuming I can figure this out or get a prepared disc from one of the kind souls on the boards, instead of flashing to the current version using a new index number, can I flash using the new 2005 US Nav disc based software? If so, I am guessing I would not have the upgrade index problem in the future, my radio would be fixed, and I would be better prepared for bluetooth phone capabilities.

As for the speaker error, it seems my RNS_E is coded wrong. I have Bose, but the number in this position was 1, not 9. We tried to change it with the Audi Vag and we get a communication error that will not allow us to change the values. We were able to change other things, like enabling the center console DIS and setting for AudioPilot, but the main string for function 7 won't take.

Any ideas on either?
