I can't get this work anymore. Did they eliminate or move it? Anybody?
Nope, still works fine with EU SW 0550, 0600 and 0650.

Okay, it works (US 0200). I needed to hold down left for at least 6-7 seconds, then right about 5.
I always hold the left button down while counting to 10 like they say when parachuting (one-thousand, two-thousand, three-thousand, etc) and then hold the right button until engineering mode appears. Works every time doing it that way.

Engineering mode

Anyone that can explain what to do, or us this mode for, or NOT do in engineering mode?
There are some settings here and there, but I have not been able to find out what these are used for...

I've tried to find out different things, but not so much useful things:
Snap-shots of screen
Reading actual speed
Use FF as PTT if you don't have MFSW.
Look at some status signals

Anything else useful??

First step is to read this thread - everything we have found out is already here...

Yes, I have read this thread, and also German, English, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish Audi pages, and my own two years fiddling with the RNS-E, but I'm still curious about most of the different settings in Engineering mode, and what their purposes are.

Any new findings?
Maybe someone could create a wiki somewhere where we all could share our knowledge or assumptions to each page in the engineering mode?

I'm particularly interested in what the options under 'Radio testmenu3' does, and also on the 'Location Information' what the options there are for.

Regarding 'Radio testmenu3', I think I read somewhere that the audio volume reading in the top left corner is the level which the RNS-E will return to after it has been shut off, and that by turning the volume knob while in 'testmenu3' you can adjust it and the new level will be saved when you exit engineering mode. Haven't tried it, will do that tomorrow.

I reguards to the volume level while in testmenu3, I think that just shows you the number value for your current volume locatino much like the other units do (RNS-E does not).

In my case if I exit from Radio testmenu3 the audio volume becomes the start-up volume for all future times - but it seems this is not the case for many (most?) other people.

whats the exact purpose of this engineering mode?
No idea for sure, but it does let you see some of the settings and diagnose some common problems with an installation - so that may be why it was included?

1) Turn on RNS-E.

2) Press the NAV button and release.

3) Press the top-left cursor button for 5 seconds and release.

4) Press the top-right cursor button for 5 seconds. Hold until the screen changes.

check for more pictures in ALBUM

Poster forgot to mention that the working navigation DVD must be inserted while doing that. Else it will not work.
The keys to push are not the arrow keys, but the keys above the bigger control knob.
