There are a few units that are being sold on ebay that are decently priced now...however I was hoping you guys could give me some insight...

The two that I am looking at say the following...

8E0 035 192 C upgraded to a 8E0 035 192 F
or
8E0 035 192 D upgraded to a 8E0 035 192 F

What exactly does this mean? Since it is a C or D unit, is there some functionality lost? Supposedly the upgrade makes it completely US spec, so no need for hacked DVDs etc...is this true?

I just wanted to make sure that before I dropped a grand, that I wasn't being had. Thanks in advance for the insight.

no difference... they are European unit flashed with US software... No difference then a real US unit... Satellite radio and all works with that, and you dont' have to mod the US DVD to work with that... some people still pay more money for a True US/Canada Unit, but there are no advantage really. You can buy any unit in the reality and flash it with the new software.. its not hard at all. Might be able to save a few bucks by just buying a Euro "D" unit and upgrade it yourself.

Is the D unit for the most part the same as the F? What about C?

It said something about SDS on the part # page, what is that?

Statement "C upgraded to F"- It is not completely true ....you can't upgrade C or D unit to F unit (it is kind of missleading)
F unit have certain hardware number and software number, and that type of upgrading described in those auctions will only change the software,..... so practically you still have C or D unit but with US software.

It is very small difference:

- A / C / D / P unit with upgraded software will need upgrade disk when new maps will be out

- E / F / R unit will upgrade automatically without any special disk

besides that most of functionality is the same. IMHO it is worth it to buy upgraded unit and save some $$$ to spend it later on othher extras lol

How do you procure the updates then with the C,D versions?

When you say automatic on the E,F are they downloaded automatically?

When you load new DVD map into E/F/R unit it will start loading update. On A/C/D/P units nothing will happen....you will need to take few files out of new disk and burn your own upgrade and then load it into your nav.
