Never seen such a screen before. Where does the photo come from? Since it's the EU device, could it be the new software 0200 some rumors are talking about?

I got that split screen on motorway junctions on both my 2004 disk and 2005 disk. It's an EU system being used in the UK.

Maybe more a US map vs. EU map thing. I haven't seen this even on highways with the US map in a EU device. I just get the plain view of the exit/intersection. And this although I have 3D view turned on for the normal map.

I have a A3 Sportsback DSG, april 2005 with Nav Plus. 2005 CD version 1.00

Split screen is available in setup:
You can select "zoom in" => map will zoom in on intersection. Very nice when using the 3D position map style.
If you select the intersection map=> This will show the split screen with yellow lines (picture2). When driving on the motorway you get the cool motorway picture with the big blue arrows(picture1).

I think you need to disable turn-notifications to see this screen.
And of course you need to be in 3D mode ;)

Glad you all like my pictures :)
The unit is not in 3D mode otherwise the right hand side would have a 3D overview also. The enhanced split screen appears on multi-lane motorway (highway) junctions as opposed to normal urban junctions as in the second split screen pic. Euro Nav DVD disk 2005 version.

Hey scoobie,
Did you have the EU 2004 disk as well and was the enhanced split screen part of the old DVD too? I guess we don't have that here in the US yet because we only get the plain 2D split screen (even though the main map is in 3D). Maybe the 2005 US map includes those nice 3D views on highway intersections?

No the unit came with the 2005 DVD so I guess this is part of the new software. Never seen the older disks in operation for comparison.

Hi guys..

You'll get this pretty appearance if you alter the 'Intersection' settings in your configuration panel.

Note: it will only display if you drive over a highway..

I have A RNS-E (8E...) with a 2004 DVD.

So can anyone tell me is there really a difference between the U.S. RNS-E vs E.U. RNS-E??

BTW, if I were to purchase the TV tuner module, will I be able to watch TV while I'm driving or play dvd from an external dvd drive?

There are a lot differences, some are good, some are bad, depends what you want.

The EU unit does not work with XM/Sirius and it does not support AM very well, FM is fine though. The EU unit needs a patched US map which requires the modification of large files. The EU unit does not power off with ignition, it powers off when removing the ignition key. The EU unit is known to work with OEM TV tuners and confirmed to work with 3rd party video/audio in adapters. Video in motion is only possible by cutting the speed wire (4B0 unit) or adding another 3rd party module (8E0 and 8P0 units), both prevent navigation from working properly. There are guys in Germany who sell a VAG-COM mod for video in motion but you have to have the OEM TV tuner and you have to bring your car to them to make the change. This method is supposed to support both TV/Video in motion and Navigation at the same time.

The US unit works with XM/Sirius but requires new SAT receivers (you cannot control your existing SAT receiver through the US RNS-E although audio is working fine). The US unit has not been confirmed to support any kind of audio/video input.

I'm sure there are ore but this is what comes into mind first...

i believe the US also has annoying safety messages -- the EU does not..
