So i am one guy trying to make the RNS-E work correct in a Seat leon cupra R 2005 with CAN.
Ok i did check if i got any speed signal in the engineering mode and the answer is no. I can only see a speed signal from the GPS. So question is if there is any speed signal included at al in the Can on a Seat Leon Cupra R. I did read somewhere on the forum that there are more then one can signal in the car and that they could be diffrent, true? I am as well thinking of programing the RNS-E as A6 unit in hope of making it possible to use the speed signal from a the Gala instead. Propobly the RNS-E units are al the same but when you program them with the help of vag-com they get there instructions to use gala or can according to your setting the program as a A6 or A4 unit. Correct?

It has been confirmed several times that the A4 unit cannot be programmed to take speed over the v-wire. The A6 unit is the only one which can be programmed to use either speed over CAN or speed over the v-wire.

Your best bet would be to take the A6 unit (4B0) and set it to auto-calibrate. With "a" speed signal at the v-pin it may get the correct impuls count eventually.

If you have both units you may be able to see where the difference is hardware wise. I read once that the A3/A4 units don't even have the v pin connected to the main board. I suppose it's more than a missing wire, maybe some IC which converts the analogue speed signal to a digital signal which can be used by the RNS-E.

Thankful for your good respons.

You may be able to get an analogue to canbus converter, I know they exist for fitting older audis that have no can bus with nav systems that require can signals.

Have a look on ebay, it looks like an RNS-E adaptor with a can bus adaptor built in.

Thanks Craig.

I thoughts on the idea off finding a diffreant Can signal in the car. I think there should be a can signal found at the obd connector for the vag-com. If so i will try to hook that one up instead and hopefully it will include the speed signal. If it works that meens that i can change between the two can signals to bee able watching tv in motion.

I dont think it will as the can bus presented on that connector has come through a gateway. You need to find the infotainment canbus for your car.

I will look into that. I checked the Ebay but no luck on the converter, is it a Dietz product? Or maybe you can link me?
Thanks.

I looked as well whilst I was posting, would have linked for you if I'd found one, but I know they exist, I have seen them

They are not made by dietz

As I said, they look like an RNS-E adaptor, but have a can bus box in the loom that takes all the standard signals gala/illum/acc from say a B5 A4 and converts them to canbus for an RNS-E

Yes, thats the one, as long as it does speed signal as well, some of the cheaper ones do not do speed signal.
