Connecting RNS-E to power connector of a A4B6

Hello guys,

I want to connect the RNS-E to the power connector of my car but find only 3 wires while other on this site talks about plenty of wires!?!?
My car has 2 connectors 1 for speakers with 8 wires and 1 for power with the following wires 1.red/blue, 2.brown and 3.a tiny blue/cyaan. Can someone explain me the meaning of this 3 wires. For your information my car had a third party radio and no diversity antenna! It has Red dis with FIS also and it is a european car.
By the way, is it possible to connect the rear speakers to the RNS-E too?
Thanks guys

if you only got the radio preparation from the factory you will need to find CAN behind the instrument cluster, wire an amp for the rear speakers and you may also have some issues with the antenna as you didn't get the diversity antenna setup. Still possible but more work.
thanks for your reply. actually i don't know if the car factory default with 3 wires only as i bought it second hand. do you know the meaning of the 3 wires? elsewhere on this site i read that A4B6 cars doesn't need to get wire from behind the instrument panel. could the tiny wire (I described above) be the can wire?! if not how many wires are needed for can as i see on the back of the rns-e something like can high and can low?
what do i need to get the diversity antenna ? thanks again
Without looking at the wiring plan I would say the red/bue is 12V permanent, brown is ground and blue/cyan is light. But you should confirm this with a wiring plan. None of the A4 B6 had rear passive speakers, therefore it's likely that your car never had an Audi radio installed and that you will need to get the Infotainment CAN from the instrument cluster. CAN is always two wires, the Infotainment CAN should be orange/lilac (high( and orange/brown (low) Search for diversity here and you will find lots of info what it's used for.
confirmed :

red/blue : +12v permanent
brown : ground
blue/cyan : light

I have the exact same issue in my car. ( with the 8 speaker wires )
Your speaker system is fully passive.
I wired the 4 extra wires ( the 2 rear speakers ) to the 2 fronts. U will lose the front/back balance option in this case.

I also have no diversity antenna, but in europe it isn't necessary. My reception is great ( also no diversity antenna available )

btw, I hope u bought the RNS-E adaptor ? since the power and speaker connectors don't directly fit in the RNS-E.
I would modify the plug & play adaptor to feed the rear line outputs to an amp. Install a small amp to drive the rear pair of speakers from the RNS-E. Also you will have get the infotainment canbus from the cluster or the RNS-E will not auto power up and you will have no illumination.

Look on the lid of the RNS-E for the pin outs.

Craig
thank you guys. for your information my rns-e comes with an adaptor with plenty of plugs. just one more question: does it mean that after connecting the can wires from behind the instrument cluster, the dis wil work too? i also heard things about "gala" do i need something else for it or not.
thanks a lot guys for supplying me with your meaningful tips
Canbus on your car provides every signal you need.

Your DIS will work once you have canbus and correctly code the cluster.

Craig
To get your DIS to work, you need to run up the NAVI part, then press the on/off switch... Don't ask me why, you just need to :?
Spl3ndr wrote that the blue/cyan wire is for light. Where does it go in the RNS-e?
AudiA4B6US wrote that can bus wires are orange/lila for can high and orange/brown for can low. Which connector do i need to open the blue or the green one?
Thanks guys
You dont need the light wire as it will get illumination over canbus.

Blue T32 pins 20/19

20 = can high
19 = can low

Hope that helps

Craig

Thanks craigyb,

the pins you've mentioned don't figure in my blue connector see my other reply just befor this one!
The CAN wires may be missing if you have no device on the Infotaiment CAN. Your Audi dealer has repair wires you can simply insert in position 19/20 and extend to you head unit.
Thanks AudiA4B6US,

you mean that I'll have to order an other kind of wires by the Audi dealer in order to get can information? Does this mean that the whole wiring behind the instrument cluster should be removed and replaced with new one containing can information? Where is the source of the can located?
All you need is a repair wire (yellow, about 50cm long) which has the correct pin at both ends. You can then insert the pins from the repair wire to the existing plug (the inner piece slides out after removing the purple lock, the pins are numbered and you just insert the pin from the repair wire at the right position). Once done you extend the repair wire to your RNS-E adapter and connect it properly. That's all, no need to touch the existing harness or replace anything else.
Thank you very much guys and especially AudiA4B6US.

I'll performe the necessary changes and then inform you about the result.

I'll be really happy if someone can post me the definition of the instrument cluster wires (of the connectors). 'cause AudiA4B6US has mentioned the name of some pins (CAN busses (engine, comfort, infotainment)) and i want to make sure if these pins exist in my connectors.
Once again guys, you are really perfect assistents.
All my regards and respect to evreyone
You don't need the other CAN busses (and you should connect anything to it unless you know what you are doing). Just add the wires for the Infotainment CAN and you are all set.
