Can I change my faceplate? RNS-E is supposed to fit A3,A4,A6 and so on... The thing is a want an A4 faceplate because the one I currently have don't match!!! And here comes the strange part...

My partnr is missing the last letter! I dont know which version I got, it only says 8EO 035 192 and the face plate really don't match with my A4 B6... It's missing 3-4mm from the top..

Does anyone know if I can order a faceplate from the dealer?

AFAIK you cannot order faceplates. If you look from behind at the faceplate there should be somewhere an A3, A4 or A6 label. But that doesn't mean that the faceplate did not get modified already to make it look like another model. There have been a few fake A4 devices where an A6 or A3 unit had been modified to look like an A4 unit. However, the faceplate doesn't fit and the devices is pretty useless at that point.

The only way to see the real part number is to connect the unit to your car and then check with VAG-COM the part number. You can check the serial numberby going into engineering mode.

If it's an 8E0 unit then it's for an A4, if it's an 8P0 unit it's for an A3 and the 4B0 is for an A6. Electrically you need a 4B0 unit for the A6 and the A4 B5. For the A4 B6 and A3 8P you can (electrically) use the either the 8P0 or 8E0 units.

I unknowingly purchased one of these fakeunits for my A4 B6. Originally it was a A6 unit, which had been trimmmed down to fit an A4, with a metal bar added to the bottom to make it look cosmetically the same, but as you found, there is approx 3-4mm missing from the top, so when fitting into the dash, there is a gap.

My workaround was to cut a peice of strip aluminium strip to size, and stick it to the top of the unit with epoxy. It doesn't look out of place, and more imprtantly, it means you can use your unit.

Electrically, the unit works fine once coded.

I investigated gettting a faceplate, but dealers don't sell them, and neither will the manufacturer.

Do you have pics? How can an A6 unit work in A4 since it's expecting speed signal from gala?

Man, what a bad luck I have... :D

If you tell the A6 unit to be an A4 unit via VAG com it will take speed pulses over CAN. My A4 unit was a fake A6 unit.
