CD changer and RNS-E questions for Allroad

1083 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  PetrolDave
I am going to do the RNS-E intallation on my '04 Allroad, but I am still confused about a couple of small things.

It seems that in order to play CD's in the car - I will need to install a CD changer in the rear compartment. As far as I can tell the Part #8E0 035 111C or D is what I need.

Two Questions:

1. What is a good source for this part? I have been unable to locate one.

2. I found the phat box hook-up in back. Can the CD plug into that - or do I need to run a separate wire?

Thanks,
Jeb

see my link in my sig for the RNS-E for C5 A6 folks....and also read through the details via quicklinks:

1) 2004 allroad won't be prewired for CD changer in trunk; you've probably found some prewiring for the OEM SAT tuner. Can you describe the cables that you've found (round, square, etc..etc)? FYI - the phatbox will connect in the trunk the same way that the OEM trunc CD changer will.

2) you will need to buy the CDC cable and run it from behind your Sym II to the trunk.

3) If you want to run SAT and CD changer(or phatbox) in the trunk and control both via the RNS-E at the same time...you will need to make a custom cable to utilized the audio pass-through on the SAT tuner.

4) if you don't want to use SAT radio, then you will need to move some pins around at the head unit to do this.

Also, you might want to make sure you order your plug/play RNS-E connector WITH the wiring for CD Changer.

Again see the links in quicklinks for more details.

Happy reading!

I have read your posts and many others many times - thank you.

May be the Sat tuner - I was under the assumption that the Phat cable was already there.

Is the cable for a phat box and the CD changer the same?

I still need a SOURCE for the factory changer, any thoughts (other than a local dealer)?

Thanks,
Jeb

Phatbox connects using the CD changer cable.

Have you tried vagparts? Even if it's not listed on their website they can usually get it - they've got special parts many times for me, always well under the dealers price!
