Can or should I even be looking a RNS-E with SDS?

I'm currently looking for a RNS-E for a 2005 S4, I'm getting ready to buy.

Should I even be looking for a RNS-E that has the SDS? I wasn't sure if its something that will work with the new car or not. It would give me more options in buying if it worked.

I don't see why not. Even if you don't use SDS it won't hurt to have it available.

Besides, many people here believe that SDS is simply a matter of coding, not hardware. As long as you have your microphone connected to the MIC IN pins on the RNS-E, your hardware will be all set.

To use SDS with a TEL interface:

The RNS-E also has a microphone pass-through to the TEL interface, so you'd need to connect the RNS-E "MIC OUT" pins to the TEL interface "MIC IN" pins.
I just installed J version with SDS (?) in my car and took some time to play with that but I couldn't get it to work. I connected MIC to nav mic-in pins but no extra features, nada.

Not sure if I want to spend more time on finding out function which wasn't even confirmed working (is there anyone who enabled this function?)

I need "proof of live" to jump on it
SDS requires a CAN based multi function steering wheel (MFL) with the voice activation button. Without the button you won't be able to start voice recognition even though everything is connected correctly. You may be able to retrofit the voice activation button using the controls from a MFL, putting it somewhere else and wiring it via LIN bus to the steering wheel control unit but that means definitely leaving the OEM area. If you alredy have a CAN based MFL it should work after proper coding.
Tricky part is that I can get B7 wheel with TEL buttons but since functionality of airbags is slightly different I can't do nothing with it.
If you have a B6 multifunction wheel without SDS or tel functions, can the controller for the steering wheel be swapped with the B6 controller to gain those functions (even though you will not have the correct looking buttons on the B6 wheel)?
You can simply VAG your steering wheel to enable the "R/T" and "Tel" functions instead of the "<" and ">" functions for the bottom buttons.
now you tellin' me :D ](*,)

I will try to source nice steering wheel with that funcion.

This is for a B5/C5...but it's likely you can do the same for the B6

And i am guessing SDS if you don't have a Multi function steering wheel is rather useless?
There are two voice related features: SDS and voice activation. Voice activation comes by default with the OEM BT FSE, SDS (Sprach Dialog System) requires a HIGH RNS-E and the newest BT FSE. And neither of both will work until someone figures out who to retrofit the Phone button from the multifunction steering wheel (and probably up/down as well).

Well i have a "J" RSN-E and a have a "G" T module on the way.. just not multi-function steering wheel (I have the Ultrasport 3-spoke with tiptronic buttons wheel (same shape as the standard "sport". oh well. Maybe some day i will find a new steering wheel to switch it out.
I have a B7 S4 with the extra buttons on the steering wheel. They are not mapped to nothing as I pressed them, "NO FUNCT" will show on DIS. Does that mean if I get the RNS-E with SDS, I will be able to use SDS function? Do I need the Tel module?
My A3 (november 2005) has the OEM RNS-E, OEM MFSW.

I also get the NO FUNCTION signal in the DIS when I press the two buttons closed to the centre of the steering wheel.

I have the s-line MFSW.

If I get the
telephone interface I should be able to use SDS ?

Is that correct?

I'm almost 99% sure about buying the
telephone interface box.

Once you get the BT module, your bottom two buttons will be active. See my other thread for info (on using the BT module with the MFSW).

Yes.
SDS?

ok.

RNS-E "j" successfully installed in my B7 A4.

Premium pkg + technology pkg = Bluetooth....

B7 has the "new" multifunction steering wheel, and the speech button activates the bluetooth / phone...

how do i get SDS working? do I need to route the mic lines in/out of the RNS?

is there someone to confirm that SDS is working...?
