Mine is fixed on top of the glovebox and I get 4-6 satellites.

I have placed my GPS antenna in many locations. When I did my RNS-D install I placed it on top of the dash behind center channel speaker. When I performed another install I placed it behind the gauge faces. And more recently I have actually placed it behind the Nav+ itself. If you take your hand and feel above the system there is a small shelf that fits the GPS antenna perfectly. I did notice that differnt parts of country I received less sat's than other. Due to this I then again relocated it to the metal shelf behind the fuse panel. I know think this is the best place to locate it an on avg I receive around 6 sat's. All you do is drop the knee bolster and push GPA antenna into fuse area and place it in the top left corner. It will sit just fine and is invisable to the eye. I can take a picture if anyone is interested, but I have found it to be much easier than any other location and if in emergency you should ever need to remove it all you do is pop off fuse panel. I get perfect signal though 24/7.
