If you search eBay.de for "Audi Bluetooth", you'll find lots of Audi Bluetooth handsets. Many have the mountings to install in the armrest.

Can anyone here tell me exactly what these are? I'm guessing that these aren't full-fledged phones, but I could be wrong. What would be really nice is if these are simply front-ends for a Bluetooth-enabled phone system. I'd love to have a handset in my armrest that automatically works with my bluetooth phone without me having to get it out.

Here are the part numbers:
Telefon: 4E0862392A
Hallter: 4E0035721C
Akku: 4E1035747

On a related subject, is anyone familiar with the "privacy handset" for the Audi phone system? I saw it mentioned in a post somewhere. It looked like a normal corded phone handset without buttons on it. I'd love to be able to have the handsfree setup, and be able to pick up a handset if I'm having trouble hearing or being heard.

I have a B5 S4 Avant with the analog phone prep. That gives me an RJ45 plug in my armrest that's wired to a DB25 plug in the back.

My father has this in his A8...

BTW: does anyone knows how to pair another BT phone on this setup, excluding the original one ???

I've tried so many times and read all the manuals, but no chance... ;-)

Just wanted to try YOUR knowledge...

The phrase "will not' is very strong language for a forum like this. The Audi dealer tells me that RNS-E "will not" work in a 2001 S4. The eBay listings actually say "A4/A6/A8", but they could be mistaken. The one that comes to mind is item 4586269629.

That still doesn't answer my questions, though. Exactly what is this thing? Is it just a Bluetooth-enabled GSM phone, or is it something else?

Thanks,
Jamie

If you trust ebay descriptions you can even trust you dealer, neither is worth anything if you don't do you own research.

The Audi BT handset will only communicate with the corresponding interface. It doesn't follow any common standard and doesn't include any intelligence - it's not a phone but only a handset. You would need to retrofit the interface as well which will be difficult because it integrates into the A8 onboard electronics, mainly various CAN devices.

Will not work might be wrong, will be very expensive and time consuming is probably be the better wording. There are just things which are easier to retrofit, unless of course you have an A8.

I will stick by "Will not work" in the case of the above parts into an non MOST car.

Feel free to prove me wrong.
