AM stations are still operating in Euro mode

Here's one more conversion of a Euro RNS E to the US version, using Dirk's excellent instructions. I now have the irritating startup disclaimer, but distances are in feet, not yards, Sirius is showing up as an option (although I think it means I need to buy the newer version of the Sirius receiver), and the FM radio staions are not showing up with the wrong genre attached to them.

One problem though, not sure how I screwed this one up. The AM stations are still operating in Euro mode, i.e. I can't tune some US stations in. Any ideas on what went wrong there?

Come to think of it, even with my AM stations off by the little that it is I still catch all of them and very clear I might add.

I don't know if it's the same in the US but in the UK some stations either only transmit on AM, or transmit different programs on AM.

For example, my local station often transmits:
  • music on AM, and
  • one football commentary on an FM frequency, and
  • another football commentary on another FM frequency, and
  • a different music program on DAB, and
  • a documentary on their webcast!
Can't say what went wrong but I'm pretty sure on my unit it was right one time while I was playing with the software. I now have the EU AM stations with the US software but this is because I tried to get back to the Euro software.

Maybe the others can check their AM stations and confirm that they are in 10kHz steps and not 9kHz as Europe does.

Ayway, if the 2006 US DVD comes with new software, this problem should go away. That's at least what I saw when trying the different Euro software versions.

You are right, the functionality of the RNS-E with the SD card slots, and now the Sat radio capability make AM sort of obsolete, but there is one station that is right in between frequencies (1130) that carries all the local sports, and I will miss getting that.
Eureka, I have fixed my AM problem (PROXUS will be happy to hear)
It was my own fault of course, I forgot to copy one of the files that Dirk mentioned, the A222109.MOT file. I think I forgot it because it is the only one that requires no modification. Anyway, just copied that file to a new CD, the RNS E did the software update and everything is US standard now.

Thanks to all for the help and advice.
