About to install Nav +

I have 2001.5 US A4 w/ Bose. After going through the NavForum, I think I’m pretty prepared to go into the install. A few question I had:

What is CAN High and CAN Low?

If I have the orange CAN wires going to the back of my Sym I:
Tap the wires and hook up the TMC

If I don’t have orange CAN wires, only grey:
I have to crack open the cluster to insert pins into #5 and #6 on grey connector?

Can I tap 12v switch and 12v constant on the factory harness, if not, what do you recommend? I’m planning on running the TMC, A/V harness and external A/V source from it.

I’m getting the “G†version of the NAV+, any issues w/ software and using an EU unit in the US? Should I download this patch?

If you were to give me the most important tips, what would they be?

Hi Laxman1100

I've just installed a Navi + in my A4 Avant 2002 fairly successfully (some teething probs which I think can be solved with VAG COM).

try this link: -http://www.nav-plus.com/instructions/installb5.html or if you have a b6 - http://www.nav-plus.com/instructions/a4b6.html.

firstly I would buy a plug & play adapter from ebay so you don't have to butcher the factory harness. You will also need some scotch connectors for the extra wiring.

I have a b6 and got my switched live from behind instrument cluster - green plug pin 3 (Black). I also got the illumination from here as well pin 17 (Grey / Blue stripe) although not working at present. Gala is also fed from here pin 21 (Blue / white).

CAN wires - Orange - ok
Grey - Have to run wires from cluster pins 5 (H) & 6 (L) to TMC pins 3 (H) & 2 (L).

I beleive the CAN BUS is a digital signal system used in this case to pass directional information to the DIS in the centre of the instrument cluster together with radio & telephone information.

hope this helps and you install goes well.
