hello all, i was just wondering if you can install the rns-e navi system without having to VAG-com it? was wondering why you needed to vag-com the certain codes. pretty much will the nav system still work if it is not vag-com'd?

If you got a new unit it should work out of the box. But any CD changer, OEM phone kit or similar may or may not work. You will also not see the navi instructions in your DIS and if incorrectly coded you will end up with a bunch of ODB errors.

i got it from powertony, and im anxious to do this install. im going to call the dealer tomorrow and see if they can do it. if its plug and play and i do not need to code anything since(i dont need cdchanger/or any other parts, just simply navi/radio/music/)but i guess code it anyway if im going to the dealer tomorrow anyway.

If you don't have a changer I would give it a try. Worst case it's not properly coded and you can fix it tomorrow at the dealer.

Have fun...

Hello Smeeg and the rest.
The US units I sell are never been used. They have never been installed in a car before. So they are coded for Audi A4 without any extra options.

Your navi will always work, but as AudiA4B6US said, it could give some strange ODB errors. Because your configuration is pretty flat, you don't have to worry about coding the unit.
The only thing you should code is the Driver Information System (I already told you over MSN).

For the other readers:
- Start VAG COM or other OBD software
- Goto to Sub 17 (or Dashboard. In german they call it Schalttafeleinsatz)
- Increase the value of channel 62 with 4.. In case you have 17, make it 21. In case you have the value 1, change it into 5

Good luck,
Tony
