Below are my vag settings - I am using a genuine Vag Com

The problem: The unit keeps trying to plot a route from Germany

So my house is consequently 4k miles away according to my cluster.

The guidance screen reads: Route could not be found

I am running SW: 0110

My codes:

STG 17 (Instrument cluster) -> Adaptation -> Function 10 -> Channel 62

21

STG 56 (Navigation System) -> Coding -> Function 07

0309711

STG 56 -> Adaptation -> Function 10

-> Channel 001 (Tires)
See http://de.openobd.org/audi/rns.htm#reifen

-> Channel 002 (GALA)

45 - Audi A4 (> 2004)

-> Channel 003 (Language)

7 - English (USA only)

-> Channel 004 (undocumented)

-> Channel 005 (TV in motion)
0 - off

-> Channel 007 (Settings)

0 - will not allow change

+01 - Distance in miles
+02 - Speed in mph
+04 - time in am/pm
+08 - Date in MM:TT:JJJJ
+16 - Repeat voice commands

-> Channel 008 (GALA)

0

000 - GALA off
001 - Charakteristics 1
002 - Charakteristics 2
003 - Charakteristics 3
004 - Charakteristics 4
005 - Charakteristics 5
255 - GALA via microphone (Bose AudioPilot ?)

-> Channel 010 (Region)
0 - Northern hemisphere

-> Channel 017 (undocumented)
-> Channel 097 (Downgrade Software)
0 - Normal operation, unit perform updates only

If it is trying to plot a route to Germany then just clear out the navigation destination entry.

If it is trying to plot a route from Germany, then your GPS antenna has not picked up enough satellites to recognize your new location on the earth. Just let the car sit somewhere it will pick up at least three satellites for about 10 minutes and you should be fine.

The latest entered address is in Germany. Guidance process was never stoped so your navigation is guiding you from the point that is not reachable.

press RETURN, than STOP navigation process, and press SETUP.
Then press upper right buton for settings and DELETE USER DATA.
It will clear all old addresses stored in the memory.

Once in NAVIGATION mode, press INFO and check how manu satellites you receive. Exactly as NSX JR wrote - wait to get at least 4 satellites and let NAV unit adjust position ofyour car (~5 min)

Ok two problems as I see it. This is an FYI post as I am taking them one at a time.

1) I am receiveing 0 Satellites - Antenna positioned in the normal location behind the cluster.

2) STG 56 (Navigation System) -> Coding -> Function 07

0301715

This should be 0309711 and will not change and save for me. Do I need the HEX+CAN version?

Vag-Com - KEY-USB is my interface and the latest full release of SW.

I'm off to drive around for a bit to attack the sattelite issue. I'll be back.

Thanks for the ideas thus far.

I see 2 problems here:

1) If you receive 0 satellites that is a problem. Check is connector is not loose. Regardless from your VAG coding you should get satellites reading. If you can't then it could be problem with antenna connection on the board

2) If you can access your NAV unit coding with VAG, youshould be able to change it as well. Same protocols are used for read/write VAG strings.

Did you buy your unit on eBay?
Just asking, because there is a lot of RNS-E on eBay with hidden damages like that. Some people use eBay just to get rid of broken units.

I hope this is not a case.

I'm familiar with the junk on Ebay, I bought my MFD there. What a nightmare, but i got it working properly.
I have contacted the seller and we are attempting to work things out as well.

I pulled the unit, all connections look solid. I am going to attempt fitment of my old MFD antenna to see if I can get signal.

Ok, Fitment of the MFD antenna worked with a little tape. Indeed, the antenna was bad.

One problem left:

I cannot make changes to the coding of the RNS-E. Any thoughts on a fix here?

Thanks again for your help!

Try resetting your unit, hold radio & setup for at least 10 seconds

Then try recoding

As I wrote before...you need to eliminate 2 possible causes:

1. Bad or Incorect VAG cable
2. Corrupted firmware

if you don't have any of those problems then mostlikely your EEPROM was damaged (I suspect during reprograming).

Working on the possible firmware issue now. It was brought to my attention that it may also be the adapter and it's wiring.

Ive used two different genuine Vag coms with two seperate laptops. One HEX one KEY - both USB

Both Vagcom units can make changes to other controllers (i.e. cluster recode was no problem) - pretty sure Ive eliminated this as an issue, unless you guys think otherwise.

I'll keep the information on the posts as it comes to me.

Cheers
