Hi there.

I will buy a 01' RS4 with Bose system within these days.

Can I install the RNS-E "D" version instead of the RNS-D?

If yes, what prats should I buy in advance?

Tks a lot!

Your RS4 should be a B5 in which case the A6 RNS-E is the best fit. Check the quick links for B5 stories, there are even pitcures of another RS4 guy who did the upgrade. The "D" unit won't work because the B5 RS4 does not have speed over CAN, you will need to get the A6 4B0 unit for the analogue speed signal and better fitting faceplate.

I thought all B5 RS4's had the three spoke wheel. I was surprised to see the MF version in those pix.

To answer your question, you can rewire your MF wheel to the CAN bus by replacing your current MF steering wheel control module. The part# for the 2002+ (CAN enable module) is: Audi Part#: 4B0 907 487 F ($185 USD)

See my links below for Lee's OEM XM install. His PDF document explains some of this and the required wiring needed.

I have yet the hear/see someone do this yet. Good luck!
