01 Allroad - Where to start with nav upgrade?

1122 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ehartley
Just purchased '01 Allroad and wanting to add navigation. Been reading through this site for a few weeks on and off.

Does anyone have a couple of good links for me to start reading further on the site for an '01 Allroad nav install?? I can perform any physical installs but need a little direction with confirming parts/purchases/existing equipment prior to embarking on nav installation.

Couple of immediate questions:

1. Will the RSN-E (or other models) allow for playing a single music CD in the DVD in-dash slot? Seems that is so. I also have 6 disc changer in rear but like the in-dash single CD ability as well.

2. From pictures I have seen on the site, it appears the RSN-E has 2 memory card slots (SD type) under the screen. What are these for? I have not been able to find information on this. Digital music play?

Thanks, in advance, for welcoming a new member with elementry questions(!). Any advice and direction is appreciated.

Eric

A good start for any A6 owner is always Ted's summary, make sure you read the part about pre- and post facelift models and issues.

If you have the old CD changer in the back it may still work after the upgrade. Just make sur eyou get an RNS-E adapter with support for a CD changer (and mobile phone if you have anythign like that installed)

The SD cards are an easy way to make you forget your CD changer. Up to 460 songs, organized by album and/or artist, with the title and more displayed on the RNS-E. Cards up to 4GB have been confirmed working but the best deal seems to be 1GB or 2GB cards right now.

Thanks for the link. I read up on Justin's Allroad install and have been in communication with him regarding his specs. He has an '03 and I have an '01 so neither of us is sure of the true spec-per-spec differences.
Thanks for the note about the SD cards. I figured this was the case (digital music play) but wanted to confirm.
