1st Nation-Wide Data Traffic Service
XM NavTraffic, powered by NAVTEQ Traffic, is the 1st nationwide satellite-based data traffic information service that enables an overlay of current traffic conditions. The best available traffic information, aggregated by NAVTEQ Traffic from multiple sources, is provided via continuous satellite broadcast to an on-board vehicle navigation system.
Traffic Between You & Your Destination
Previously, GPS navigation systems calculated routes to a destination, with no knowledge of true traffic conditions along the planned route. XM NavTraffic provides detailed NAVTEQ Traffic information overlaid on the navigation road map, allowing the navigation system to show the traffic conditions between you and your destination.
XM NavTraffic Information
Roadways for which traffic flow information is available are shown by color-coding to indicate directional traffic flow speed. Accidents, road construction or other incidents affecting traffic are graphically represented on the navigation map with an icon at the location of the incident. Information relating to a traffic incident is also available including the precise location, lanes affected, and the predicted duration.
Benefits of XM NavTraffic:
• Traffic flow data, indicating the average traffic speed along major highways (where available)
• "Personalized Traffic Information" for current location and destination
• Visual presentation for clear "at-a-glance" communication
• Advanced notification of congestion along traveled route
• Aids a driver to re-route around upcoming congestion
Traffic Aggregator: NAVTEQ Traffic
NAVTEQ Traffic delivers seamless traffic flow and incident information for the XM NavTraffic service. NAVTEQ Traffic provides data that has been aggregated from multiple sources across the country, including the leading commercial traffic data providers, government departments of transportation, police & emergency services, road sensors, cameras and real-time aircraft reports. Designed as the Industry Standard
The XM NavTraffic service has been designed as an industry standard for flexible integration into a variety of navigation platforms regardless of map database support. Automobile partners have adopted the XM NavTraffic service as part of their in-car GPS navigation systems; standard on the 2005 Acura RL and available on the 2005 Cadillac CTS. For the aftermarket, the Pioneer AVIC-N2 and AVIC-D1 are now available with the XM NavTraffic not to mention XM audio service. Other new vehicle announcements as well as aftermarket products supporting the XM NavTraffic service are expected in the near future.
22 Markets Covered and Growing
XM NavTraffic, supported by NAVTEQ Traffic, launched in October 2004 with 20 markets. In June 2005, two additional markets - Tampa and Orlando - were added to increase the coverage to 22 markets. In addition, the market coverage within each market has been expanded where possible given the addition of qualitative data sources for increased flow and incident data reporting. Additional markets as well as the continued enhancement of current markets are planned for the near future with our data partner, NAVTEQ Traffic.

NAVTEQ Trafficâ„¢
NAVTEQ Traffic is a revolutionary real-time traffic data product that provides map-linked traffic information for navigation applications. Until now, drivers have had to rely on broadcast traffic services such as radio. By nature, such services can't deliver personalized information - specifics about an individual driver's location. Traffic-enabled navigation delivers personalized traffic data, in real time, directly to a vehicle's navigation system.
NAVTEQ Traffic is the foundation for traffic-enabled navigation because it offers up-to-the minute traffic data aggregated from multiple sources across the country, including the leading commercial traffic data providers, government departments of transportation, police and emergency services, road sensors, cameras and airborne reports. NAVTEQ Traffic aggregates available data including planned incidents (such as road construction and road closures), unplanned incidents (such as accidents and disabled vehicles) and flow (speed and movement of traffic). Once received, the data is quality tested to ensure the sources meet NAVTEQ Traffic's rigorous data quality standards. The information is then merged with NAVTEQ maps and continuously broadcast ensuring that the latest information is available to the in-vehicle navigation system.
NAVTEQ Traffic is designed for flexible industry-wide adoption by automakers and aftermarket system manufacturers. It is currently available in 20 markets: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Diego, San Francisco/Oakland, San Jose, Seattle, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C.
NAVTEQ Traffic is a cutting edge industry introduction because it marries dynamic traffic information and static map data to set a new standard for next-generation navigation technology.
